Chuck Perkins

Chuck Perkins is from New Orleans and a spoken word artist. In some ways he is the spiritual offspring of Gil Scott Heron - articulate, intelligent, political, angry, funny, both engaged and enraged with the black community, aware of his community's history, of past and present oppressions, compassionate towards the youth but despairing too. And to back his words he employs a savvy band of local musicians who bring a jazzy street funk not too distant from what Olu Dara conjured up.
He’s performed in cities all over the US and Western Europe. In 2010 he had the privilege of opening for Amiri Baraka at London’s prestigious South Bank Centre and in 2013 he was invited to New York’s Lincoln Center to watch the premiere of “Tradition is a Temple”, Perkins’ poetry was used to narrate the documentary. He also narrated the award winning Louisiana Public Broadcast Documentary “Changing the Tides”. In 2010 he wrote and produced a series of commercials for the New Orleans Hornets NBA franchise, and his most recent CD “A love Song for Nola” is on independent German record label, Trikont.
